IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS REGARDING:

     1.      MEETINGS:  The Clerk is responsible for posting special and regular Township Board Meetings, preparing the agenda and publishing the minutes.  The minutes are published in the Gladwin County Record.  For more information on township meetings click here for Meeting Schedule.

     2.     DOCUMENTS:  All documents and correspondence (incoming and outgoing) are handled through the Clerk's office.  The Clerk acts as the secretary to the Board and is responsible for the files of the Township.  Under the Freedom of Information Act, most all township documents (some are excluded by law) are available at the Township Hall for viewing.  There is a charge for document copies and/or audio tapes.  The Clerk's office has five (5) days to respond to FOIA requests.  If a document search is involved, it may take longer to comply.

     3.    GENERAL LEDGER:  In Butman Township, the clerk is the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for  working with the Township Supervisor and department heads to prepare fiscal year budgets.  Budgets are amended by the Board as needed, to comply with state law.  The Clerk maintains the chart of accounts used to identify individual expenses and the departments being charged.  The Clerk pays all the bills, does the payroll, and furnishes Board members with the financial records of the Township on a monthly basis.

     4.   ELECTIONS:  The Clerk is responsible for maintaining the Township's voter file and implementing the state of Michigan laws.  In 1997, the State initiated the QVF (Qualified Voter's File).  New voter registrations and voter registration changes may be made at the Secretary Of State's office in Gladwin.  This is especially convenient when you change the address on your operator's license.  Citizens may also register at the County Clerk's office in Gladwin or at the Township Hall.  The Clerk submits names of citizens who desire to work the elections to the Board for approval as needed.  Workers are trained every two (2) years by the County Clerk's office.  There are no precincts or wards in Butman Township.  All voting takes place at the Butman Township Hall.
